Cecilia Bengolea

Cecilia Bengolea works in performance, video and sculpture. Imbued with the symbolic energies of nature and relationships, her compositions are formed around ideas of the body—both individual and collective—as a medium. Bengolea develops an artistic practice in which she sees movement, dance and performance as an animated sculpture, with herself as both object and subject in her own work.

Her collaborative work with choreographer François Chaignaud has earned her several awards, including the Prix de la Critique de Paris in 2010 and the Young Artist Prize at the Gwangju Biennale in 2014. They have also co-created pieces for their dance company, as well as for the Lyon Opera Ballet, the Ballet de Lorraine and the Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal.
