WE DEEM WE DREAM
Estelle Hanania
In 2026, as an opening for its festival in Shanghai, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is presenting We Deem We Dream, an exhibition presenting the photographs of the artist Estelle Hanania.
During the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Festivals, photographers are given carte blanche to follow choreographers and dancers day in and day out, both onstage and backstage. On the occasion of this first Shanghai edition, French artist Estelle Hanania, who has been working closely with Van Cleef & Arpels since 2022, inhabits the Museum of Art Pudong.
From 14 October to 14 November, We Deem We Dream showcases around 40 photographs taken during previous Festivals: London in March 2025, Seoul in October 2025 and New York in February 2026.
This selection provides immersion in the dancers’ movements, from the rehearsal hall to the stage. It sheds light on the spontaneity of Estelle Hanania’s work. Often discovering pieces while photographing them, this artist has adapted to varied performance spaces. Mobile anddiscreet, the photographer captures motion and plays with darkness to trace the dancers’ movements with her film camera. Estelle Hanania thus creates a dialogue between photography and contemporary dance, an intersection dear to the Maison.
