Angela Goh
In 2026, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels™ is supporting the Bienniale de Lyon for the presentation of the show TOTAL by Angela Goh.
What does it mean to dance, feel, and think in the third person?
No longer as an "I," but instead as a "he," a "she," a "that," a "they," or a "them?" In TOTAL, Angela Goh has tasked herself with exploring this possibility. Solo dancing has traditionally envisaged movement as the expression of an individual subject, but here, Goh seeks to comprehend "how the body can address something other than itself." As part of an extensive, long-term research project, this site-specific performance has culminated in a multi-part video installation throughout the Musée des Tissus. Through the artist's movements, the gestures seem to become detached from the performer. They appear to carry the body as much as the body does them. This constantly evolving relationship provokes what Goh terms a "crisis of attribution" that prevents us from determining to whom - or to what - a gesture belongs. The person's boundaries become porous, just like the relationships and responsibilities that form between bodies and the world that surrounds them.
