Nimble

With Nimble, Not Standing presents its most ambitious piece to date. Nine dancers form a contemporary ballet troup and explore the power of collective physical rhythm. Inspired by Alexander Vantournhout's fascination with boxers' footwork, Nimble focuses on the lower body, bringing into view what often escapes attention. 

In Nimble, Not Standing brings its physical language to a larger stage, exploring how  space can become a dimension in its own right. How does a collective body of nine individuals move through this space? In constant motion, the dancers exchange rhythms and move between the collective and the individual.

The accompanying sound is created by the performers themselves and played live. The movements build into a soundscape of rhythms, polyrhythms, loops and live electronics, blurring the boundaries between dancer and musician. The result is a pulsating choreography in which movement and music propel each other, transforming the stage into a collective physical rhythm.
