Trisha Brown: Roof Piece

Trisha Brown Dance Company
In 2027, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels™ and Sydney Festival present in collaboration the show Trisha Brown: Roof Piece by Trisha Brown Dance Company as part of the Festival in Sydney.
Generations of Trisha Brown Company dancers have performed Roof Piece all over the world. The 1971 original version spanned 10 blocks in lower Manhattan and is among Brown’s earliest and most ambitious site-specific choreographies. Roof Piece uses distance to transcend the boundaries of a room, a stage, and the eye of a single viewer. Dancers simultaneously receive and transmit movement, and as the dance travels, distance allows for a decomposition of the original message.
In collaboration with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the company reimagines Roof Piece as a live dialogue with the Art Gallery’s own architecture. Performers relay the work's signature call-and-response across distances, through both indoor and outdoor spaces, transforming the museum site into an active participant. This restaging amplifies Brown’s enduring commitment to accessibility, experimentation, and the radical potential of movement in
context.
