Composing dance: Béatrice Massin

Baroque: the meaning of the word today

A white audio cassette with the name of Béatrice Massin

What is Baroque dance, and how do artists draw inspiration from it to create today? Ahead of “Unfolding the Baroque,” a major exhibition and series of performances and conferences curated by the CN D this fall, Béatrice Massin delved into the meaning of the word “Baroque” – and the evolution of the dance world’s understanding of it – in these audio messages.

Massin is internationally recognized for her expertise in Baroque dance. After training as a contemporary dancer, she founded her own company, Fêtes galantes, in 1993, and creates works that weave together Baroque and contemporary influences. Her family-friendly new version of The Pied Piper will open the season of the CCN - Ballet de l'Opéra national du Rhin, and in November, she will present a world premiere, Requiem – la mort Joyeuse, at the Théâtre de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
