Muette
Boris Charmatz
In 2026, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting the new creation of Boris Charmatz, Muette. Dance Reflections is also supporting the 80th edition of the Festival d'Avignon for the presentation of this creation.
With Muette, Boris Charmatz continues his solo work, like a counterpoint to his lush group pieces, to explore a space “where language doesn’t come out, where the tongue is silenced, where the mouth, open or closed, suggests chasms of emotion”. Conceived as a sort of sequel to his first solo, SOMNOLE, Muette is an invitation to follow the almost invisible motion of a stifled cry, of a body that takes and absorbs violence in silence, of a bubble of saliva that burst at the corner of the lips. This “dance which seethes quietly,” raw and intimate, needs little to unfold neither music nor clothes. The choreographer bases his work on those things that exist in liminal spaces, that stupefy and leave us speechless. He aims to “dance within the inner muffling.”
