My Fierce Ignorant Step

This piece is a performance about the euphoria of being alive as an act of assertion. Ten dancers generate an ecstatic soundscape from which choreography gradually takes form, driven by breath, rhythm and collective presence. Bodies and voices resonate as carriers of memory and urgency, composing a shared field of energy in which movement becomes song and the body a site of resistance. 

In My Fierce Ignorant Step, Christos Papadopoulos engages with the lasting imprint of Axion Esti by Mikis Theodorakis, set to the poetry of Odysseas Elytis, as a living terrain of collective memory. This inner landscape persists across time, returning with force and clarity, insisting that the past remains active within the present. Listening becomes a way of holding onto what continues to demand response. 

Drawing from the sonic memories of childhood and youth shared by many Greeks, the work articulates a longing for endurance, solidarity and struggle. Togetherness emerges as a foundational condition, where proximity generates trust and shared momentum. The dancers move side by side, cultivating a fragile yet determined unity that resists fragmentation and fatigue.

The choreography unfolds as a practice of persistence. Energy circulates, multiplies and disperses, carried by bodies that affirm vulnerability as strength. What rises from this collective motion is a commitment to remain engaged—to defend courage, presence and care as political values. This creation is a work shaped by the desire to sustain life, to stand together and to fight for the meaning of a shared world.
