In 2021, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting the Opéra de Lyon Ballet in creating Noé Soulier’s Self Duet, a solo piece interpreted by Katrien De Bakker as part of the Danser Encore project (2020-2023).

Self Duet presents a one-woman pas de deux . Dancer Katrien De Bakker approaches different parts of her body as if they belonged to an external partner. This choreography questions the position of our bodies and the fine line separating our inner and outer selves. The performer’s body serves at once as goal, means, object, target and constraint.

As in the Grand Caprice on Der Erlköni by composer and violinist Heinrich W. Ernst which accompanies this solo piece, the performer in Self Duet becomes dual--two partners--who direct one another's movements in turn.
