Sphère/Kurah

Sphère/Kurah is a spatial triptych of intertwining bodies, voices and gestures. Images detach from the body to become traces, lights and sparks. In this passage from presence to fragility, the piece probes the conditions of survival.
Choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen and filmmaker and photographer Tala Hadid work at the edge of their disciplines and worlds. Their collaboration has yielded an ensemble of moving image and gestures performed, photographed and filmed in North Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere.
The installation features successive layers of images in which bodies, voices and gestures experience cycles of grief and joy, and of density and disappearance. What happens in the encounter between a body and an image when each one becomes a variation? These appearances extend the traces, as the bodies do not limit themselves to simply appearing; they modulate, withdraw, and reappear differently. Between the female dancers and the camera, and between the audience and the moving images, an unstable zone emerges in which presence varies in intensity. The piece contemplates what remains when forms disperse. Sphère/Kurah inaugurates a constellation of future works arising from this collaboration.
