With Sturbzep, Sophie Perez turns the stage into a machine for collective hallucination. The Loch Ness monster, Orson Welles’s radio hoaxes, the yeti, Émile Ajar, cryptids and grotesque acts of imposture all find their way into this new creation by the legendary Compagnie du Zerep. In an age of deepfakes and alternative truths, falsehood is everywhere—and here, it becomes a wildly playful realm.

Somewhere between a haunted manor, a broken-down fairground and a Romantic nightmare, Sturbzep unleashes giant larvae, absurd creatures and excessive visions in a chaos both hilarious and unsettling, embodied by Sophie Lenoir, Stéphane Roger and the duo Bastien’s. Co-written with Pacôme Thiellement and accompanied by music by Danielle de Picciotto and Alexander Hacke, the piece offers a sensory, monstrous experience.
