Body Connectivity Movement System
With Xie Xin Dance Theatre
In 2026, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels™ is organizing, in collaboration with the China Shanghai International Arts Festival, the workshop Body Connectivity Movement System taught by Xie Xin, as part of the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels™ Festival in Shanghai.
"The Body Connectivity Movement System is founded on the principle of activating the body’s autonomous experience of the dance process. Using the movement research of Xiexin Dance Theatre as its pathway, it explores an inwardly open synchronization of body and mind. It connects “sensation” — the activation of the inner core of the self; connects “self” — the development of movement cognition and logic; connects “partner” — the secrets of contact and support; and connects “all” — allowing the open body to enter into dialogue with every medium around it.
The Body Connectivity Movement System proposes: “Spreading outward from within, arising upward from below, penetrating forward from behind, and generating form from perception.” Its movement concepts include: the flow of Qi and the concept of convexity and concavity; the concept of the three-dimensional joint sphere; the concept of pull and delay; the concept of parabolic natural force; the concept of ground transmission through the rolling, pressing, and pushing of the center of gravity; the concept of force as the essence of movement; and more.
The core concept of movement at Xiexin Dance Theatre is regarded as “Qi.” It is the generation and flow of one’s own energy in our stage works; it is the key to the saturation of one’s inner and outer space. We believe that the unobstructed flow of Qi and its union with intention allow dancers to possess their own spirituality.
The Body Connectivity Movement System proposed by Xiexin Dance Theatre believes: Dance is imbued with spirit through human perception! Dance connects the inner world with action, space with time, and our deepest selves. You create “connection,” and connection creates “who” you are!"
