Impromptu
Boris Charmatz
In 2022, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting the Centre Pompidou-Metz for the presentation of Impromptu by Boris Charmatz.
For all of 2022, Boris Charmatz and [terrain] led a series of rehearsals and experiments - the early stages of a show in the making. In the churches of Paris and Graz, or in a central square in Lisbon, the group focused on locations far from theaters and open to all.
These unannounced events take root and grow around the idea of the church, and its etymology from the Greek ekklêsia, translated as “gathering”. It’s this idea of gathering - whether it be in the shelter of religious buildings or outdoors - that fuels this work, and the two iconic instruments they bring with them: the organ and bells. Mixing sprints with slow movements, punk music and pealing carillons, contemporary compositions for the organ and Beethoven’s sonatas, Boris Charmatz thus set the conceptual and choreographical groundwork he will explore in his next piece, Liberté Cathédrale (Liberty Cathedral).
For the Centre Pompidou-Metz, he envisioned a unique performance that delves into his most recent investigations. This event will be the first headliner of the Week-end Danse, and will take place at the Centre Pompidou-Metz Saturday October 22nd and Sunday October 23rd.
