In 2023, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse to present Silent Legacy by Maud Le Pladec.

A sociological study of genre, heritage, and dance culture, Maud Le Pladec crafts two solos: one of 8-year-old Adeline Kerry Cruz, a Canadian krumping prodigy, and one of contemporary dancer Audrey Merilus.

In two diverging portraits of dance, Silent Legacy imagines dance as a tool to deconstruct norms, the site where every tradition - chosen and embraced, present but strange - can collide. An extension of the reflections on female friendship, identity, and the role of women in history explored in Counting stars with you (musiques femmes) Maud Le Pladec imagined two solos for two dancers of different generations and cultures. Adeline Kerry Cruz, 8, lives in Montreal and practices krump, a style of dance born in Los Angeles ghettos as a way to transform anger into energetic movement. Its history is not her history, but the heritage is a spiritual one. For her part, Audrey Merilus follows a more academic path, mastering the language, techniques, and codes of contemporary dance, marked by an “ideology of the neutral” that today must be questioned. Silent Legacy is the history of these two trajectories and the imaginations and invisible connections that link them; the revelation of unique identities.

Maud Le Pladec

After completing the Ex.e.r.ce training at CCN Montpellier, Maud Le Pladec has been a performer for such choreographers as: Georges Appaix, Loïc Touzé, Mathilde Monnier, Mette Ingvartsen and Boris Charmatz. Beginning with her first shows, Maud Le Pladec has cultivated a strong connection between her dance and the music. For her original production, counting stars with you (musiques femmes), she decided to focus her research on matrilineal musical heritage. As the current director of CCN Orléans, she continues to explore questions surrounding genre and cultural identity. Her latest creation, Silent Legacy, will examine lineage through dance at the Festival d'Avignon in 2022.
