In 2023, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting the École des Sables for the second module of training diaspora Africa.

The training consists of three series of 10-week programs for dancers from Africa, its diaspora, and the Caribbean. The sessions are guided by teachers and artists working internationally, offering contemporary practice rooted in a language specific to Africa and its diaspora.

The training program aims to promote the development of the participant, and also to initiate a permanent dialogue between those living in and outside of Africa, each of whom have knowledge to pass on or to discover. The dancers work on both contemporary and traditional repertories rooted in African and diaspora cultures.

The second module, “Performance, visibility, and blackness”, incorporates work on performance and tools to develop performing skills of black dancers from Africa and the African diaspora.

During the 10 weeks of training, both teachers and participants question the way in which the black body is put into play in dance, where it is subjected to the regard of certain Western and other audiences. They also study different techniques to promote a new perception, understanding and approach to black bodies on stage.
