Space, time, movement

In Koha, these fundamentals morph at once into a physical sensation. They envelop the performer, and the audience. His body models, alters, swells and screens the air. He awakens us to our own body, our own position in an abruptly palpable collective spacetime inhabited jointly by the dancer and spectators. The performer’s body, shaped by years of study, suddenly appears as an array of forms and lines, a sculpted volume that periodically freezes amid the fluid succession of sequences, offering tense snapshots imbued with motion.

The undivided attention of the audience is drawn to a detail revealed through a gesture. United as a single spectator, we become an observer, a witness, eyes at once probing and sculpting, reading, thinking and linking this lone body to the slightest plot of space, near, far and even beyond. The choreography opens our field of vision, draws on the landscape and, as is so often the case in Pierre Pontvianne’s work, appeals to the horizon, a line that is never quite defined, and never transcended.
