In 2023, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting the project Lucinda Childs x 100, initiated by the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and its presentation at the Grande Halle de la Villette as part of the Festival d'Automne à Paris 2023.
November 30, 2019 marks the birth centenary of Merce Cunningham, to which the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) paid tribute. More than a hundred dancers from the school and the percussion department gathered at the Grande Halle de La Villette to create a new event, thus continuing a series of unique performances, one of the hallmarks of the choreographer. In 2021, Trisha Brown was honored by the jazz department of the Conservatoire.
More than an homage, 2023 is a celebration of Lucinda Childs, another prominent figure of post-modern American dance. Following tradition, more than 100 dancers of the Conservatoire will navigate through productions as iconic as the Concerto or Sunrise on the Planetary Dream Collector, which was created in 1998 for the Conservatoire. This time around, the choreography will be accompanied by a string orchestra.
Lucinda Childs is a central figure in post-modern dance and belongs to the generation of choreographers who revolutionized dance by meticulously breaking down the spectacular codes passed down by contemporary dance.
Lucinda Childs x 100 is an exclusive combination of extracts from her works, making it a wonderful opportunity to discover or rediscover the broad spectrum of her art, which will be interpreted by a new generation of dancers and accompanied by musicians from the CNSMDP.
