May B
Maguy Marin

In 2025, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting Chaillot – Théâtre National de la Danse for the presentation of May B by Maguy Marin.
May B, was choreographed by Maguy Marin in 1981 at the start of the contemporary Big Bang. It remains inalterable. Inspired by her reading of the work of writer Samuel Beckett, whom she met at the age of 75, Maguy Marin translates his dark, gritty universe better than anyone else through an impressive choreographic and rhythmic body of work. The piece became the be all and end all of her work, inventing a new dance based on marching and cadences, in a choreography that is jerky, convulsive, incisive and ferocious. All her work serves a vision of humanity, at once grotesque and tormented, full of hope and anxiety. Maguy Marin opens breaches in the imaginary, through which these characters enter, with their clumsy, panting bodies, pitiful and terribly endearing.
