In 2026, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is organizing, in collaboration with the Joyce Theater's New York Center for Creativity & Dance, the EXIT ABOVE workshop as part of the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Festival in New York.
Enter the world of the 2023 creation EXIT ABOVE by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (Rosas's director).
This open class will explore some of the starting points for the creation of EXIT ABOVE (2023) by Anne Teresa de Keersmaker and her company, Rosas. As is often the case, music is a big source of inspiration for De Keersmaker. For EXIT ABOVE, she worked with singer/songwriter Meskerem Mees and music producer Jean-Marie Aerts to create a score deeply rooted in pop music. Mees worked within the world of blues, as one of the origins of pop music, while Aerts played with techno beats. Both are deeply rooted in pulse and so a lot of the dance material created for this piece has a connection to this pulse - from the most basic human pulse of the heartbeat to the simple rhythm of walking all the way through to more complex coordinations that sit in the beat.
The class will explore some walking dances as well as teach some of the movement material set to the techno rhythms.
In this workshop, Jacob Storer and Clinton Stringer teach a section of their solos and guide participants through the creative principles behind them, inviting them to develop their own interpretation.

Dance Reflections also supports the next creation Gla55 of the artist and the presentation of Il Cimento dell’Armonia e dell’Inventione by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Radouan Mriziga.
