Portrait of Katerina Andreou

In 2024, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting choreographer Katerina Andreou for her latest creation Bless this mess.

Born in Athens, Katerina Andreou is now based in France. A graduate of Athens Law School and the National School of Dance in Athens, she followed the ESSAIS program at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers and holds a Master’s degree in choreographic research from Paris 8 University. As a performer, she has notably collaborated with DD Dorvillier, Anne Lise Le Gac, Lenio Kaklea, Bryan Campbell, Dinis Machado, Emmanuelle Huynh, and Ana Rita Teodoro. In her own work, she develops a physical practice unique to every project and seeks a kind of presence resulting from constant negotiation of tasks, fiction, or contrasting and even contradictory universes, often challenging notions of authority and censorship. The sound environment, which she designs herself, becomes her main dramaturgical tool. She received the Jardin d’Europe Prize at the ImpulsTanz festival in 2016 for her solo "A Kind of Fierce." She then went on to create the solo "BSTRD" (2018), the duo "Zeppelin Bend" (2021) with Natali Mandila, the performance "Rave to Lament" (2021), and most recently, the solo "Mourn Baby Mourn" (2022). She is an associate artist at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen en Normandie from 2022 to 2024 and with the EXERCE Master program at the Centre Chorégraphique National in Montpellier.
