In 2021, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting choreographer Rachid Ouramdane, the new Director of the Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse, for his creation Corps extrêmes.
In Rachid Ouramdane’s latest creation, choreographies performed by adventurous athletes and aerial artists evince the aspirations of these spectacular sportspersons in their quest to defy gravity. Many mountain climbers, highliners and other extreme sports enthusiasts risk life and limb every day to probe existential questions and give meaning to their lives in a society where they feel like eternal outsiders.
There emerges from these intimate challenges an additional dimension: majestic environments, considered inaccessible by most. Some of these artists contend with such milieus on a daily basis, becoming one with their natural surroundings. They take on the elements, competing against air, water, snow, through an exercise in self-affirmation that puts into subtle relief the dehumanization of the modern metropolis. These performers open a new perspective on ecological transformations, engaging in a shared culture and a collective moral code fashioned by their environment.
