Derrière Vaval, Pleurs, cornes et fwet
Thomas Lebrun / CCN de Tours

In 2025, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting Chaillot – Théâtre National de la Danse for the presentation of Derrière Vaval, Pleurs, cornes et fwet by Thomas Lebrun/ CCN de Tours.
The result of a special relationship between the CCN of Tours, which is directed by Thomas Lebrun, and the French overseas territories, this creation brings together three dancers from French Guiana, Martinique and Guadeloupe respectively: Gladys Demba, Jean-Hugues Miredin and Mickaël Top. While they come from different backgrounds and generations, they share the same generosity and challenges, the same enthusiasm and energy. Through the characters of the various carnivals, Thomas Lebrun weaves a choreography with their stories, which often intertwine with those of enslavement of relations with Metropolitan France, in a constant back-and-forth between text, music and dance. This is why, on the day Vaval, King of the Carnival, is buried, the Devil or the Weeping Woman, dragging her pots and pans to collect the tears of the afflicted, the Fwet (a character armed with whips), and a marvelous horned character gather to celebrate, "a man, a woman, a human, […] a history of roots and colors, shared or individual," but above all, freedom.
