Discovering polka chinata
Alessandro Sciarroni
In 2026, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is organizing, in collaboration with L'Alliance New York, the workshop Discovering Polka Chinata taught by Gianmaria Borzillo and Giovanfrancesco Giannini as part of its Festival in New York.
The polka chinata, a courtship dance that originated in Bologna in the early 1900s, is revived in Alessandro Sciarroni’s Save the Last Dance for Me and in this workshop led by dancers Gianmaria Borzillo and Giovanfrancesco Giannini. The purpose is not to train participants to become expert polka chinata dancers, but rather to create a sense of community and transmit the steps of this ancient dance to as many people as possible. A project dedicated to conserving this dance and ensuring that it remains meaningful today.
The workshop is taught by Gianmaria Borzillo and Giovanfrancesco Giannini (Dancers of Save the Last Dance for Me)
Date & Time : March 1, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
