Fampitaha, fampita, fampitàna
Soa Ratsifandrihana
In 2024, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting Soa Ratsifandrihana for her creation Fampitaha, fampita, fampitàna and the MC93 for the presentation of the piece as part of the Festival d'Automne à Paris 2024.
Engaging their bodies in contemporary orality, Soa Ratsifandrihana, guitarist Joël Rabesolo and performers Audrey Mérilus and Stanley Ollivier draw on their diasporic narratives and origins to tell a story they would have liked to hear or see. Fampitaha, fampita, fampitàna - three Malagasy words meaning comparison, transmission and rivalry - form declensions in which the performers slip from one state to another, seemingly following a movement in perpetual metamorphosis.
Oral, musical and choreographic narratives intertwine in a performance between orality and movement, reminding us that bodies, like words and sounds, carry our stories. The second chapter of a diptych begun with her radio creation Rouge Cratère, Soa Ratsifandrihana - previously noticed with her solo g r oo v e - was inspired by words and stories she collected during a recent trip to Madagascar. She travels towards a form of wandering and explores how, like creolization, several influences can lead to an unheard-of explosion of cultures.
